Twitter+: New Features We Would Like to See

With the popularity of social media, it's to no surprise that Twitter is quickly becoming the go to source for all things newsworthy. While it's got a lot to offer, there are three features we'd still like to see.

1. Folders within Twitter Favorites
I can’t tell you how many times I have been in a discussion with a coworker, involved in a new business pitch, or just having a tech conversation with a friend and remember a random statistic from an article I tweeted about that proves whatever point I’m trying to make. Then they ask the horrifying question: “I don’t believe that, where’s the article?” and I begin to sweat. I start to sift through all of my tweets realizing that the article I’m referring to was something I tweeted over two months ago. No worries, I’ll just go to my “Favorites” section within Twitter and find it. Oh wait, I usually “favorite” a tweet every other day. I still have the same problem of scrolling through a never-ending list to find that one tweet I need.
Twitter needs to develop folder options for tweets that people want to be able to find easily. It should operate similarly to the functionality of email folders. This would allow better organization and a better user experience for Twitter.
2. Home Screen Customization
The home page is so cut-and-dried on Twitter. When users log in, they’re immediately overwhelmed with the tweets of their entire Following list. Let people change it up, like you see with a lot of the Twitter tools currently out there (i.e. TweetDeck). I’d love to be able to create one “block” that displays my favorite Twitter list, another block that follows a specific hash tag, etc. I might “follow” 2,000 people on Twitter, but there is a much smaller segment that I follow on a regular basis.

3. Create Twitter Contact Lists
Have you ever been posting a tweet and thought, “I bet so-and-so would find this interesting” … then when you go to tag them in it, you can’t remember their user’s handle or Twitter keeps providing the incorrect prompts? This process can be extremely frustrating. This issue could be solved by establishing a shortcut that opens a window with a breakdown of your contacts. You could segment your contact list by favorites or other groupings (Twitter could even default to be associated with what list you have placed each person on). Note to Twitter: don’t rely solely on a drop-down of suggestions, especially when you are trying to make interaction easy and your website appeal to a larger audience.
Some might argue that free third-party solutions already exist that address some of the issues I listed above. However, Twitter shouldn’t have to rely on third parties or apps to accomplish their goals, especially when trying to grow their audience.
